Lawsuit Charges Cops Confused Candy With Meth

The lawsuit says officers confused Jolly Rancher candies with crystal meth

A Brooklyn man has filed a federal lawsuit charging he was wrongly arrested by officers who confused Jolly Rancher candies with crystal meth.

The Daily News reports that 25-year-old Love Olatunjiojo and a friend bought Jolly Ranchers at a Coney Island candy store last June.

They were arrested a short time later by officers who searched them, found the blue and red candy and thought it was crystal meth.

The lawsuit filed last week in Brooklyn federal court says lab results proved the candy was just candy.

Olatunjiojo is seeking unspecified monetary damages for the 24 hours or so he spent in custody.

A spokeswoman for the city Law Department says it is awaiting service of the court papers and would look into the allegations.
