A 24-year-old Long Island man has been arrested in two separate attacks on women, including when he allegedly kidnapped a 21-year-old woman at gunpoint in West Hempstead two days after Christmas, drove her somewhere and sexually assaulted her.
Levar Burton, of Amityville, was charged Monday with kidnapping and sexual abuse in the Dec. 27 attack, police said. Detectives say Burton is allegedly the man who approached the victim on Terminal Road around 4 a.m. Dec. 27 and snatched her. He fled on foot after the attack.
The woman was treated at a local hospital.
He's also accused in a second attack on a 39-year-old woman at 4 a.m. on Middle Neck Road in Great Neck, when he sexually assaulted her and robbed her of two phones at knifepoint, police say.
Burton's lawyer, Sam Rieff, says he believes his client was framed.
Police say Burton worked for a newspaper delivery service and went to many different areas for his work.
"Hopefully we'll never see this guy on the streets of Nassau County or any other county again," said Det. Lt. Richard LeBrun.
