State police say an autopsy shows a 72-year-old man who died while kayaking on the Chenango River suffered a cardiac medical emergency.

Troopers identified the kayaker Friday as Dennis Healey of Chenango Forks. Police say Healey was kayaking with a group of people shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday when witnesses saw him capsize and become entangled in debris.

Several people were performing CPR on Healey when police arrived. Broome County ambulance personnel took over care but Healey was subsequently pronounced dead.
