Facing Rape Charge, Queens Gym Teacher Accused of Sexually Assaulting 2nd Student: Police

The 39-year-old gym teacher accused of having sex with a 16-year-old student in a closet at her Queens school has been charged in the alleged sexual abuse of a second victim, officials say.

Joy Morsi was charged Tuesday with committing a criminal sexual act and endangering the welfare of a child after students at the school told investigators about a second possible victim, police say. Prosecutors say the alleged abuse involved another 16-year-old boy last weekend on school property.

Morsi was originally arrested Monday on rape and criminal sex act charges after police found out she allegedly had sex with a 16-year-old boy.

According to a criminal complaint, Morsi is accused of having sexual contact with the boy as many as 30 times over a six-week period last summer.

Police say Morsi was arrested after the boy told a friend, and that friend told a parent, who alerted school officials. Authorities say the 16-year-old student also has a sexually explicit video that is being investigated.

The city Department of Education said Morsi has taught physical education at the school since 1999 and administrators pulled Morsi from the classroom immediately after learning of the allegations.

“We find these claims disturbing and reprehensible and she will remain reassigned – far from any student and the school – pending a criminal investigation,” the DOE said in a statement

The agency also said she has had no prior infractions.

Morsi had no comment as she left court Tuesday.
