Job Fair Held for Marcal Paper Mills Workers Who Lost Jobs in Fire

Five hundred workers lost their jobs in the devastating fire

Hundreds of former Marcal employees packed into a job fair held specially for them after they lost their jobs in the New Jersey paper plant fire last week.

More than 80 companies were at the Bergen County Community College in Paramus Friday, eager to find employees.

"We had to actually turn businesses away, that's how overwhelmingly people wanted to help," said county executive Jim Tedesco.

Terry Powell, who has worked at Marcal for 30 years right out of high school, said he was happy to see the community turn out and so ready to help.

Employees can still contact the New Jersey Department of Labor at marcaljobs@dol.nj.gov or call 609-633-8017 or 609-292-6446.

Additionally, a dedicated email address (hr@soundviewpaper.com) has been set up to allow employers to share open jobs with all the workers who lost their jobs.
