NJ Music Teacher Arrested for Sexual Contact With Student

A New Jersey music teacher volunteering at another school was arrested for allegedly having sexual contact with at least one student, and showing obscene images to others.

Twenty-seven-year-old Derick Jerinsky, of Suffern, was arrested Wednesday by Ramsey Police in New Jersey and charged with one count of aggravated criminal sexual contact, six counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and four counts of obscenity for persons under 18.

Jerinsky engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with several female students while volunteering as an assistant band instructor at Ramsey High School, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Sex Crimes and Child Abuse office.

Jerinsky was never employed at Ramsey High School but works full time as a music teacher at Eastside High School in Paterson, N.J., according to authorities.

Prosecutors say one student reported Jerinsky's conduct and investigators soon learned of additional female victims.

Jerinsky had inappropriate sexual conversations, both personally and electronically with the students officials said. He also allegedly showed them inappropriate images and had direct inappropriate sexual contact with one female student from 2008 to 2010.

Jerinsky was sent to the Bergen County Jail with bail set at $125,000.
