Crowds, Sun Greet Mermaid Parade

The 28th annual Mermaid Parade rolled down Coney Island’s Surf Avenue Saturday -- with more than 3,000 marchers and as many as 50,000 revelers lining the sunny parade route.

NBC New York's Cat Greenleaf played the part of Mermaid Queen.  This year’s King Neptune is Brooklyn native Adam Richman from the Travel Channel’s "Man Vs. Food."

Founded in 1983, the Mermaid Parade pays homage to Coney Island's forgotten Mardi Gras which lasted from 1903 to 1954.
