Drivers should be aware of street closures around the Ironman race course in New York City and New Jersey Saturday.
The beginning of the grueling race is in Fort Lee, N.J., where intrepid tri-athletes will run, bicycle and swim for a total of more than 140 miles. Roads approaching the George Washington Bridge will be closed, with the major stretch on the Palides Parkway starting at exit 18, heading south to the toll plaza.
The race ends at Riverside Park, near 83rd Street on the Upper West Side.
The competitors can complete the 2.4-mile swim in the Hudson River, after a sewage-related health advisory was lifted Friday. The swim's starting point is about 15 miles south of the discharge.

About 2,500 athletes from around the world are expected to compete in the first Ironman race in New York and New Jersey. The entire course totals 140.6 miles.
