Iconic Beach House Sails to NY

The house -- and barge -- took a 95-mile trip

A beach house designed by a famous architect has been brought by barge from New Jersey to Long Island.

The house set sail Thursday night from a marina in Barnegat Light, N.J. The barge arrived Friday in Glen Cove, N.Y., after a 95-mile trip, then was moved onto land.

Robert Gotkin and Deborah Sarnoff already live in a house designed by architect Robert Venturi. Their new acquisition, which was saved from the wrecking ball, will be used as a guest cottage.

The little beach house was built in Barnegat Light in 1967. It's best known for the huge number 9 on its front, and a sailboat-shaped window on one side.
