About 600 guests at a lower Manhattan hotel were forced out of their rooms early Monday after a sprinkler pipe on the roof of the building burst and sent water seeping downward, fire officials say.
The pipe atop the Holiday Inn Financial District burst at about 4:15 a.m. and sent water rushing down through the Washington Street building, according to the FDNY and IHG, the group that owns Holiday Inn.
Guests who were forced from their rooms gathered in the hotel’s lobby while fire crews worked to stop the leak.

Photos submitted to NBC 4 New York showed water seeping to the ground floor through the elevator shafts of the 50-story building.
The leak was stopped at about 8 a.m., according to the FDNY. The pipe was repaired by noon, fire officials said.
Workers were waiting for the elevators to dry out before restoring service. Some guests were relocated to lower floors.
Local
IHG said in a statement Monday morning that many guests were able to return to their rooms. Guests staying in rooms that were damaged by water are being to relocated to other nearby hotels.
It’s not clear if the cold weather contributed to the leak.
