Bikers who want a little tune-up without going to a repair shop or heading home for tools now have a new option in Hoboken.
The bustling city, which has long sought to promote biking to help curb traffic, installed its first self-repair bike station behind the bus terminal near the PATH at Hudson Place.
The public service station has a hand-operated air pump, a bike stand, and multiple tools, including screw drivers, wrenches and a tire lever, to assist in small repairs.
It’s among the first stations of its kind to be installed on the East Coast.
The city also doubled the number of bike racks near the PATH station.
"Our streets are public spaces that belong to everyone, not just cars," Mayor Dawn Zimmer said in a statement. "Every Hoboken resident is a pedestrian, and more than ever, they are also riding bikes to get around. This expansion of our bicycle infrastructure demonstrates our strong commitment to making Hoboken more bike-friendly."
