Hit-And-Run Driver Kills College Student

Police search for the hit-and-run driver who killed a 19-year-old college student walking home

Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who killed a 19-year-old college student walking home early Saturday in western New York.

According to investigators, the sport utility vehicle struck Meghan Sorbera, throwing her about 30 feet, and she suffered fatal head injuries at about 1:35 a.m. She was walking with friends to their house near the Hilbert College campus in Hamburg, south of Buffalo, after working at a haunted house at the Erie County fairgrounds.

College officials said Sorbera was from Burlington Flats, outside Cooperstown, a sophomore studying to become a forensic investigator.

The students were walking with traffic on South Park Avenue, which has no sidewalks. Witnesses said the SUV slowed but didn't stop.
