Here Comes the Heat

Today it'll be warm, but tomorrow will be a scorcher

It's getting hot out there. So leave your coat at home.

After a few chillier days, the warming begins. Forecasters predict a high of 78 degrees for Friday, and we'll bake in near record heat – a high of 87 degrees – tomorrow.

Saturday's forecasted scorcher ties the record 87 degrees we hit on May 1 in 2001, but it'll be rather humid so it'll likely feel even warmer. If you plan to be outside, bring enough water to keep you hydrated throughout the day.

Sunday will bring muggy, extraordinarily humid weather with a high of 83 degrees and a chance of a late-afternoon thunderstorm that'll cool things down heading into next week.

The upcoming spate of sizzling days marks the warmest weather since early April, when temperatures reached a record-setting 90 degrees in Central Park, melting the previous record of 89 degrees set way back in 1929.  Newark also reached record temperatures, where it also hit 90 degrees, smashing the previous record of 85 degrees.

The April heat-flash had many wondering whether this spring and summer will take a different tone from last summer, where rain and cool temperatures lingered through June. While forecasters predict the next few days to bring scorching temps, they say we'll be back to mild weather – with averages in the 70s – by early next week.
