Trump to Recognize Jerusalem as Israel's Capital

President Trump will recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital despite intense Arab, Muslim and European opposition to a move that would upend decades of U.S. policy and risk potentially violent protests. Trump will instruct the State Department to begin the multi-year process of moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city, U.S. officials said. It remains unclear, however, when he might take that physical step, which is required by U.S. law but has been waived on national security grounds for more than two decades. Officials said numerous logistical and security details, as well as site determination and construction, will need to be finalized first. Because of those issues, the embassy is not likely to move for at least 3 or 4 years, presuming there is no future change in U.S. policy. To that end, the officials said Trump will sign a waiver delaying the embassy move, which is required by U.S. law every six months.

Winds Churn California Wildfires, Keep Aircraft From Helping

The same vicious winds that turned three Southern California wildfires into destructive dynamos were also making the firefight more difficult. The water-dropping planes and helicopters essential to taming and containing wildfires have been mostly grounded because it's too dangerous to fly them in the strong wind. Tuesday saw gusts of over 50 mph. Commanders hoped to have them back in the air, but all indications were that the winds will be whipping then too, fanning the flames that spurred evacuation orders for nearly 200,000 people, destroyed nearly 200 homes and remained mostly out control. Southern California's so-called Santa Ana winds have long contributed to some of the region's most disastrous wildfires. They blow from the inland toward the Pacific Ocean, speeding up as they squeeze through mountain passes and canyons. The largest and most destructive of the fires, an 85-square-mile wildfire in Ventura County northwest of Los Angeles, had nearly reached the Pacific.

2 Men to Appear in Court Over Terror Plot to Kill British Prime Minister

Two men will appear in a London court to face terror charges after reportedly plotting to assassinate British Prime Minister Theresa May. The plan, revealed to the British Cabinet, allegedly involved planting a bomb outside the entrance to Downing Street gates before attackers would stab the U.K. leader in the ensuing chaos. Andrew Parker, the head of domestic intelligence agency MI5, reportedly told ministers in the briefing that nine Islamic extremist plots have been thwarted over the past year. The prime minister's spokesman declined to discuss the details of the alleged plot, but several newspapers have reported that two young men arrested in London and Birmingham last week were making preparations to kill May.

Beyonce Presents Kaepernick With SI's Muhammad Ali Award

Beyonce presented Colin Kaepernick with Sports Illustrated's Muhammad Ali Legacy Award, and Kaepernick promised that "with or without the NFL's platform, I will continue to work for the people." Beyonce was brought out as a surprise presenter by comedian Trevor Noah. She said she was "proud and humbled" to present the award. Last year's Ali Award winner, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, called Kaepernick a "worthy recipient." Kaepernick began kneeling during the national anthem last season to protest racial inequality and police brutality. The demonstration sparked a wave of protests by NFL players during the anthem that repeatedly have been denounced by President Trump.

Terry Crews Sues Agent Over Alleged Groping Incident

Terry Crews alleges talent agents at William Morris Endeavor are "knowingly permitted and encouraged to engage in sexually predatory conduct" in a lawsuit filed against the agency and one of its top executives. Crews' complaint states the actor and former NFL player was subjected to sexual assault, sexual harassment, gender violence and emotional distress during and after a 2016 incident in which he says he was repeatedly groped by a talent executive. The lawsuit recounts Crews' allegations that agent Adam Venit groped him at the Hollywood party last year and details the actor's efforts to see Venit disciplined after the incident. Crews complained about Venit to agency chairman Ari Emanuel, and the two men have retaliated against him for going public with his allegations, the lawsuit states. The lawsuit contends the agency knew Venit was predatory and condoned his behavior by failing to punish him for it.
