Driver Arrested After Striking, Killing Worker on Grand Central Parkway

The highway worker was struck and killed Tuesday morning while working on the Grand Central Parkway

A highway worker was struck and killed while working on a Queens roadway Tuesday morning, officials said.

Frank Avino, 63, of Ronkonkoma was working in the left lane of the Grand Central Parkway near Jewel Avenue in Forest Hills when he was hit by an Audi driving west, authorities said. 
 
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
The driver of the car, identified by police as Munshi Abdullah of Queens, was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest. 
 
The investigation caused heavy delays east and west-bound on the Grand Central.
