Gang Members Arrested After Ramming Cop Car: Suffolk Police

What to Know

  • Police have arrested several alleged Bloods gang members on Long Island
  • Police say they rammed an undercover police car in Suffolk County on Tuesday night
  • The men allegedly had drugs and a handgun in their vehicle

A group of gang members were arrested after ramming a police car while trying to escape officers on Long Island, police say.

The four men, three of whom are believed to be members of the Bloods gang, sped away when they were pulled over on River Road in Shirley Tuesday night, according to Suffolk Police Commissioner Tim Sini.

But instead of continuing to drive, police said the men parked their vehicle and waited for officers. As an unmarked police car was turning a corner, they hit the gas and rammed it head-on, according to Sini.

Suffolk Police Commissioner Tim Sini announced the arrests of the four men Wednesday.

The two officers weren't hurt and managed to arrest the four men.

"After being rammed-on, they continued to pursue the vehicle and make this arrest," Sini said.

Members of the Firearms Suppression Team were involved in the traffic stop, and police say a handgun and drugs were ultimately seized from the men's vehicle. Police believe the gun was stolen from Mississippi.

The four suspects — identified as Franklin McNight, James Jackson, LaValle Wilson and Anthony Dawson — face drugs and weapons charges.

While three of the men are believed to be gang members, police called the fourth man "an associate."
