    Francesco Cali, supposed leader of the Gambino crime family, was shot to death on Wednesday night. But this isn’t the first time New Yorkers have seen the notorious Gambino family on the news. The NYC mob has long been making headlines for various crimes including murder, extortion, and racketeering.

    Gambino family mob boss Paul Castellano was shot to death outside of a New York City steakhouse in 1985. He was the last family crime leader to be shot in NY before Cali.

    In 2007, FBI agents arrested 11 members and associates of the Gambino and Luchese families on charges of racketeering, bribery, extortion, money laundering, loansharking, and bank fraud. One of the members arrested included George Decicco, alleged boss of the Gambino family at the time.

    The FBI recorded Decicco making threats such as “I’ll burn your eyes.”

    A man believed to be a leader in the Gambino crime family was shot to death outside his home on Staten Island, a law enforcement official briefed on the case and two other sources said. Michael George reports.

    The NYPD arrested John Gotti Jr. and six other mobsters in a drug bust in 2016 called “Operation Beach Party.” Police say they found hundreds of pills and $40,000 in cash was seized during the bust.

    Gotti is the grandson of the late John Gotti, one-time boss of the Gambino crime family. In 1992, John Gotti was convicted in the murder of Paul Castellano, previous mob boss, as well as a multitude of other crimes. Gotti died of cancer in prison in 2002.

    Gotti is currently serving an eight year prison sentence after pleading guilty to selling drugs in his Queens neighborhood.
