Funeral services for a Long Island firefighter who died after being critically injured while battling a house fire are scheduled for next week in Inwood.
A wake for Joseph Sanford Jr., a 17-year veteran of the Inwood Fire Department, is planned from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church on Wanser Avenue.
The department has scheduled a service for its members at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
A funeral Mass is planned at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Sanford suffered cardiac arrest after officials believe the first floor of a house in Woodmere collapsed early last Friday morning, causing him to fall to the basement.
He never regained consciousness after the fire, said Inwood Fire Chief Anthony Rivelli. Sanford was taken off a ventilator at North Shore University Hospital Tuesday and died.
