Organizers are planning a Latin music marathon to raise money so family members can bury a soldier from New Jersey killed in Iraq in Peru.
Sgt. Christian Bueno Gardos was among five soldiers who officials say was gunned down by a comrade at a stress clinic on Monday.
Paterson Deputy Mayor Maria Del Pilar Rivas says the military would pay for a memorial service in Paterson. However, the 25-year-old's family wants to fly his body back to his native land.
The fundraiser will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at El Punto Restaurant in Paterson. A $10 donation is requested.
