The freezing weather and strong gusts of wind have most New Yorkers bundled up, but for the city's homeless, finding respite isn't easy.
The Department of Homeless today issued the first Code Blue of the season Monday -- which allows police and homeless outreach teams to force people living or sleeping outside to come indoors.
The city asks people to call 311 if they see someone sleeping outside this week.
"One phone call can really save a life," he said. "We can get somebody there quickly and get them into a [safer] situation," Homeless Services Commissioner Seth Diamond told the Daily News.
Daytime temperatures yesterday and today hovered around 35-degrees, with lows in the mid-20s in the city. In some suburbs, temperatures dipped into the teens.
On Tuesday, the weather gets colder and winds pick up -- with gusts up to 30 miles per hour. On Wednesday, the expected high is only 33-degrees. By Friday, temperatures should crawl back up to the low 40s.
