Police on Long Island arrested four people after they uncovered a cockfighting ring set up in the basement of a home in Central Islip.
Police raided the home Saturday night after getting an anonymous tip and removed 39 roosters in addition to a large cockfighting ring.
Police also seized tools used to prepare the birds for fighting, a timer, spectator seating, and gambling records.
The four men were arrested on various charges, including prohibition of animal fighting, sale of alcohol without a license, and promoting gambling.
Last week, eight people were arrested in the Bronx for cockfighting and dozens of roosters were removed from a basement apartment building.
