A man convicted of firing a World War I-era pistol at police in New Jersey has been sentenced to 45 years in prison.
Jaquan Suber was sentenced Friday on December jury convictions including attempted murder and other counts, the North Jersey Record reports.
Fort Lee police were called twice on the same September 2017 day to defuse an argument between Suber and his landlord, authorities in Bergen County said. Police said he fired at officers and was hit three times by return fire.
Suber sought a new trial, disputing that he fired, but the judge said the entire episode was captured on video.
Defense attorney John Weichsel said repeated police visits caused his client to snap. Suber, he said, "was frightened, but he didn't mean anyone any harm."
