FEMA to View Long Island Flood Damage

Paul Eidle

Federal officials are weighing how to help an eastern Long Island neighborhood still struggling with flooding.

Rep. Timothy Bishop and Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy said a Federal Emergency Management Agency walk-through was planned Monday in Riverhead.

Evacuated residents of the hard-hit neighborhood have been staying at motels or with relatives. They're worried that their houses could be condemned.

On Sunday, social worker Linda Hobson went to retrieve soggy bedding. The murky water had fallen several feet, but still filled the street outside her home.

Last week's storm also caused flooding in Ronkonkoma and southwestern Nassau County.

Bishop aide Jon Schneider says it has complicated efforts to repair damage from two previous storms.
