Far Rockaway Residents Protest Planned Transient Hotel

Residents in Far Rockaway, Queens, are protesting plans to build a transient hotel in their neighborhood.

Neighbors gathered at Beach 44th Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard, the site of the proposed six-story transient hotel.

Residents fear the hotel will compromise their safety.

"It's gonna make me be a prisoner in my own home," said Kathy Sofronis, a Far Rockaway resident. "I'm not going to be able to come out with my son for walks, for play dates, because of the type of people that might be living here."

La Quinta Inn and Suites issued a statement Monday saying the hotel will enhance the area and be an asset to the community by bringing in jobs and offering quality lodging.
