The family of an emotionally disturbed man gunned down by police in Harlem last week says Mohamed Bah didn't have to die.
Lawyers representing Bah's family announced Sunday that the Manhattan District Attorney's office will be looking into the shooting.
Bah's mother said she called 911 last Tuesday when she noticed her son was acting strange. When officers arrived at the house, police said the 28-year-old charged at them with a kitchen knife.
Officers said they tried to subdue Bah with a Taser and shot him with a rubber bullet, but when he didn't stop threatening police they opened fire.
Bah's sister says the officers didn't even give her mother a chance to try and calm Bah down.
“My mother was there pleading, pleading they should let her speak to my brother,” said Bah’s sister Oumou Bah. “My brother did not even know that my mom was downstairs. She pleaded with every police officer that came.”
Bah's family said he was depressed.
A grand jury is expected to hear the case in the coming months.
