The 28-year-old victim is from Staten Island, according to police

A man has died after being hit by a falling beam in the courtyard of a high-rise in Morningside Heights, police say.

The beam fell several stories in the interior of the building on Riverside Drive and struck a worker in the head Thursday afternoon.

The man, identified as 28-year-old Angel Espinoza of Staten Island, was unconscious and unresponsive when emergency responders arrived.

He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The building, called the International House, is affiliated with Columbia University and houses some graduate and international students.

The NYPD is investigating.
