The man who was shot and killed by police in front of his Connecticut home Tuesday morning attacked his family in the moments leading up to his death, law enforcement sources told NBC 4 New York.
Christopher Andrews inflicted stab wounds and blunt-force trauma on his wife and three children before police were called to their Fairfield home by his 13-year-old daughter, sources said.
The 51-year-old was outside the home when cops got on scene, as was his bat-wielding 15-year-old son. Sources said that Andrews refused to drop a knife and lunged at an Officer Sean Fenton, who shot and killed him.
Christopher Andrews was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His wife, Kathleen Andrews, was also taken there and was last listed in critical condition.
Their children, a 12-year-old boy, a 13-year-old girl and the 15-year-old boy, were transported to Saint Vincent's Medical Center in Fairfield. Their conditions weren't available.
It's not clear what caused Christopher Andrews to attack his family, sources said. Police said they had no prior calls o the home or involving that family.
Fenton, a 25-year veteran with the Fairfield Police Department with 35 letters of commendation and other awards, was temporarily reassigned to desk duty.

State authorities are handling the investigation into the case.
