Expansion work will begin this week at the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in the Hudson Valley.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday the $17 million project will result in almost 4,300 square feet of new and refurbished exhibit space with an increased emphasis on the stories of Purple Heart recipients.
The governor says the hall will be closed during construction starting Friday. The facility about 60 miles north of New York City is scheduled to reopen by November 2020.
The National Purple Heart Hall of Honor is dedicated to Purple Heart recipients. It's located at the camp in New Windsor where Gen. George Washington first awarded the forerunner to the Purple Heart in 1782.
