Former U.S. Sen. Alfonse D'Amato has testified at the corruption trial of former New York Senate leader Dean Skelos.
D'Amato, a Republican like Skelos, testified Friday he warned Skelos in 2013 that his son might get fired because he wasn't showing up for work at a medical malpractice insurance company.
D'Amato said he was told the job was in jeopardy by a partner at the consulting firm where he has worked since leaving the U.S. Senate in 1999.
The 57-year-old Skelos is on trial in Manhattan federal court along with his 33-year-old son, Adam.
Prosecutors say the elder Skelos arranged for more than $300,000 in revenue for his son in return for contributions and help with legislation.
Both defendants have pleaded not guilty. Skelos has retained his Senate seat.
