Ex-Cop Used Job to Prey on Women, Prosecutors Say

Prosecutors say a former New York City police officer used his job to prey on women he offered to help and then molested.

Wilfredo Rosario went on trial Tuesday on sexual abuse and misconduct charges. He has pleaded not guilty and his lawyer says the women's accounts are unreliable.

Separately, Rosario was convicted in January of misconduct after being accused of telling a teenager he would tear up a ticket if she did him a sexual favor. He faces up to a year in jail on that conviction.

This trial centers on allegations that he approached women in his capacity as a community affairs officer, took their addresses, and then turned up at their homes and groped them against their will.

The New York Police Department has fired Rosario.
