Escaped Prisoner Who Dragged Cop With Stolen Police Vehicle Sentenced

A judge has handed a 5-year prison sentence to a man who escaped from custody and hurt an NYPD officer while making his getaway.

Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown announced the sentence Friday for Bryan McMenamin.

Police say the suspect got control of an unmarked police vehicle in June when it made a stop in Glendale, Queens.

One of the officers saw the van moving and grabbed the driver's side door. The defendant hit reverse and dragged the officer a block.

The officer was treated for torn skin and ligament damage in his leg.

The defendant was captured a day later at a public housing complex in Lower Manhattan.

He pleaded guilty to assault in August.

He had initially been picked up as part of a drug investigation.
