New York and New Jersey transportation officials are warning E-ZPass customers about a suspicious email some have reported getting.
The Port Authority said Tuesday people should not open or respond to an email that says it's from "E-ZPass Customer Service Center" with subject lines like "Payment for driving on toll road" and "In arrears for driving on toll road."
Officials say it's not from E-ZPass and is likely a phishing scam. The safest thing to do is delete the email.
Some customers in other states have received the email.
The EZ-Pass Service Center does not send out email invoices for payment, officials say. Customers who owe money are sent invoices in the mail.
Officials say anyone with questions about whether a message is valid may call the E-ZPass Customer Service Center in New York at 800-333-8655, and may check their individual account through its website.
