Drunk Driver Runs Red Light, Crashes Into Cop Car in Queens: NYPD

An intoxicated man crashed into a police cruiser after running a red light and losing control of his car Wednesday night in Queens, police said.

The man, who was unidentified, was driving on 133rd Street when he ran a red light to go eastbound on Liberty Avenue around 9:30 p.m., according to the NYPD.

He lost control of his car and ended up facing southbound on the eastbound lanes of Liberty Avenue, police said.

When an NYPD patrol car pulled up to the passenger side of the suspect’s car, the suspect tried to get away, but instead allegedly backed into the patrol car. He then drove forward and hit a parked tow truck. Both the patrol car and the tow truck sustained minor damage.

One officer was taken to Booth Memorial hospital for evaluation.

The suspect was arrested and charges are pending.
