Drunk Driver Hits Woman Leaving Church After Mass: Police

A drunk driver crashed into a woman who was walking out of a church after Mass, then came to a stop in front of a nursery school, police said.

Nancy Ruff, 76, of West Babylon, was seriously injured when she was struck in front of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Babylon on Saturday, Suffolk County police said.  She was taken to Good Samaritan Hosptial Medical Center.

The driver, Anthony Parrinello, 27, of Babylon, was charged with driving while intoxicated, police say. He wasn't injured. It wasn't clear whether he had an attorney.

Police say Parrinello first struck a parked van, then hit the woman, and finally stopped in front of St. Joseph's Nursery School.

Two people in the van -- a man and a 3-year-old child -- were hospitalized for minor injuries, police said.

Parrinello's vehicle, a Ford F250, was impounded.

Anyone with information or cell phone video of the crash is asked to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
