Police say a drunk driver lost control of a minivan and careened into a pole Monday afternoon on Staten Island, injuring five people in the vehicle, including four children.
The minivan crashed around 4:30 p.m. on Fingerboard Road in the Grasmere neighborhood.
The impact of the crash injured four children and a 33-year-old woman. Among the children were an 11-month-old girl, a 3-year-old girl, a 9-year-old boy, and an 11-year-old girl.
Those who were injured were rushed to Staten Island University Hospital in critical but stable condition.
The driver of the vehicle, 35-year-old Norman Williams, was arrested and charged with vehicular assault, aggravated DWI and DWI. The aggravated DWI charge stems from the fact that there was a child in the car.
