The bodies of more than 30 animals have been found along a Westchester highway.
Westchester County police say dogs, cats and an 18-inch lizard were dumped in black plastic garbage bags on the shoulder of an entrance ramp to the Hutchinson River Parkway in Harrison.
Commissioner George Longworth says the bags were found Thursday morning by a maintenance crew. He says the animals were in various states of decomposition. He says it wasn't known how long the bags had been there.
"This is definitely one out of the ordinary," said Detective David Whitney.
Police said some of the animals looked as if they had been there for at least six months. Others were put there much more recently.
Police say they are investigating whether the animals may have been euthanized.
