“DEA” TV Show Films Second Season in Newark

A television show following agents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency is shooting its second season in and around Newark.

The documentary-style “DEA” show highlights efforts to combat the illegal drug trade in New Jersey's largest city at a time when Newark Mayor Cory Booker is trying to change its reputation for crime and drugs.

DEA shot its first season in Detroit. Filming of the series in the Newark area began Oct. 6 and will continue through March.

C. Russell Muth, the show's executive producer, says northern Jersey has yielded larger drug busts, including a 175-pound seizure of methamphetamine. He said the area serves as a staging point for the illegal drug trade in New York City.
