Mayor de Blasio has chosen a longtime planning official as New York City's parks commissioner.
Mitchell Silver was appointed Friday. He has most recently served as the chief planning director in Raleigh, N.C., and also is former president of the American Planning Association.
Silver was business administrator for Irvington, N.J., and a deputy planning director in Washington, D.C.
He'll replace Veronica White, who stepped down at the end of December.
The park advocate group Friends of the High Line heralded the appointment as "a wonderful harbinger of spring."
