Cuomo: I Won't Replace Biden

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday called speculation he’d replace Vice President Joe Biden on the 2012 Democratic ticket “just political chatter and silliness.”

Speaking in the Buffalo suburb of Lancaster, Cuomo dismissed questions about a New York Post column on Monday that asserted President Barack Obama would replace Biden with Cuomo.

“That’s just political chatter and silliness,” the first-year governor said. “We want to stay focused on doing the good work with the people of the state.”

The Cuomo float is the latest in a series of rumors – so far all baseless – that someone other than Biden would be Obama’s 2012 running mate.

Last fall Bob Woodward suggested Obama was thinking about naming Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to replace Biden. Then-White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said the story was “absolutely not true” and Clinton said she had “no interest” in being No. 2.
