NBC Universal, Inc.

Police say gunfire erupted at a nightclub in the Bronx early Monday, leaving two people with injuries and a woman dead.

Law enforcement sources confirmed a woman was killed after someone opened fire around 7:30 a.m. in the University Heights section of the borough.

The shooting occurred on Jerome Avenue and the injured victims were transported to nearby St. Barnabas Hospital. Witnesses said there were about 30 people inside the restaurant and club, which had a DJ performing from the previous night. Neighbors said the establishment is known for parties that go until dawn, and beyond.

The shooting appears to have started inside, police said, before making its way to the streets, evidenced by a bullet hole in the back of a car. Aside from the 19-year-old woman who was killed, the 28-year-old and 30-year-old men suffered injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening, police said.

No suspects were in custody immediately after shooting, and the police investigation is ongoing.
