What to Know

  • Gov. Cuomo posted a sticky note on a subway station wall with thousands of other sticky notes with comments about the election results
  • Cuomo referenced the Statue of Liberty and New York's history of taking "your tired, your poor, your huddled masses"
  • The sticky note wall got started on Nov. 9 by a man who wanted to give New Yorkers a way to vent about the election

Gov. Cuomo joined thousands of other people in placing a sticky note on a Manhattan subway station wall expressing his thoughts about the presidential election.

Cuomo visited the sticky note wall at the 14th Street-Union Square subway station on Monday.

Cuomo's sticky note reads:

New York State holds the torch high! – Andrew C.

'Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free … I lift my lamp beside the golden door' Emma Lazarus

STATUE OF LIBERTY

Thousands of stickies have been posted by people around the world since Matthew Chavez created the project, dubbed "Subway Therapy," on Nov. 9. Chavez brought sticky notes and pens to the station last week and encouraged New Yorkers to write what they felt about the election result and post it on the wall.

Some subway riders turned to sticky notes to express their feelings following election day. Roseanne Colletti reports.

Chavez said the days following the election have been really stressful for people: "I wanted to give people an opportunity to feel less stressed or get something off their chest."
