State Corrections Officer Accused of Raping Inmate

A state corrections officer was arrested on a rape charge after allegedly having sex with an inmate at the Westchester County facility where he worked.

Police say Richard Rodriguez, 32, was arrested Monday following a joint investigation by the New York State Inspector General's Office, the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and the New York State Police.

Authorities began investigating in February after hearing that Rodriguez had had sex with an inmate at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, where Rodriguez worked as a corrections officer. They say their investigation showed the Brooklyn man did have sex with an inmate in December 2013.

Rodriguez was fired from the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision as a result of the investigation.

He was released on $500 cash bail after being arraigned on a charge of third-degree rape and is next due in court in September. Information on an attorney for him wasn't immediately available.
