A police officer who is the brother of a New Jersey mayor has been acquitted of assaulting a teenager following a vehicle pursuit two years ago.
Middlesex County jurors found Carteret officer Joseph Reiman not guilty of aggravated assault and providing false information Friday.
A judge earlier dismissed an official misconduct charge.
Joseph Reiman took the stand to deny having used excessive force after the 16-year-old crashed a car he had taken without permission in May 2017.
The officer acknowledged striking the teen in the head and face while trying to handcuff him.
The teen, now 18, testified that he was repeatedly beaten even after he was handcuffed.

Mayor Daniel Reiman, the officer's older brother, said he was "thrilled," calling the case a "fraudulent persecution of a law enforcement officer doing his job."
County prosecutors declined comment.
