Construction Worker Crushed to Death by Concrete Wall at Long Island Home: Police

A 47-year-old construction worker was killed when a concrete wall fell on him as he worked at a Long Island home Monday, authorities say.

Police say the victim, identified as Julian Castellanos, and two other men were installing a staircase at a basement apartment under renovation in Huntington Station. They had previously built two retaining walls and were in the process of building steps when one of the walls collapsed, crushing Castellanos to death.

The other two men were not hurt.

Castellanos ran his own construction operation, police say. It wasn't clear if he was licensed to do so.

A spokesman for the town of Huntington Station said the owner of the home where the men were working would likely receive a summons because there was no permit for the work.
