Connecticut Reports Increase in Ticks Carrying Lyme

The number of ticks carrying Lyme disease in Connecticut is higher than usual this year, according to the state.

Dr. Goudarz Molaei, of the state’s Department of Environmental Sciences, says more ticks are testing positive for the bacteria that causes the disease.

On one March day, half of the 65 ticks the state tested were found to be infected with the disease, according to Molaei.

The state urges people to reduce time spent in tick-infested areas, wear protective clothing, use insect repellent and check the body for ticks after spending time outside.
