The New York City Council has approved a living wage bill — despite Mayor Michael Bloomberg's vehement objections.
The bill passed Monday by a 45-to-5 vote.
It brought drama to City Hall.
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn stormed out of a news conference hours before the vote after a heckler called the mayor "Pharaoh Bloomberg."
Quinn said that it's not "appropriate" for bill supporters to talk about democracy, then call the mayor names and not listen when he speaks.
The man who made the comment, Carlos Pacheco, said it was a mistake, but said Quinn should not have walked away.
"She put on a show for us today, " Pacheco told NBC 4 New York. "But she was exposed, because if she really felt the cause... she would not have left us."
The bill requires direct recipients of at least $1 million in city subsidies to pay their workers at least $10 an hour plus benefits, or $11.50 without benefits.
Bloomberg says he'll veto the measure and sue if the council overrides his objection.
Quinn, who is running for mayor, is seeking Bloomberg's backing.
