Police Investigate Death of 3-Year-Old in the Bronx

The girl was found by her mother's boyfriend at an apartment on Longfellow Avenue, according to police

Police are investigating the death of a 3-year-old girl in the Bronx, who was found unconscious and unresponsive Friday afternoon.

Cristal Sanchez was found by her mother's boyfriend at an apartment on Longfellow Avenue, according to police.

The boyfriend called 911 and emergency responders tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate Cristal, who was rushed to Bronx Lebanon Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

"I just saw the Fire Department and ambulance put the electric shock on the baby, and they took her away in an ambulance," said Marco Perez, the superintendent of the building

The medical examiner's office has not determined a cause of death; police sources said the child had bruises on her neck, back and arms.

Police were seen late Friday carting bags of evidence out of the apartment and investigators were questioning Cristal's mother and her boyfriend to try and determine if a crime was committed.

Cristal's aunt, Pastora Noe, told NBC 4 New York that her sister would not tolerate abuse and that her sister's boyfriend is not a violent person.

"He was a nice guy, so that's why I'm surprised that this happened," Noe said.
