Shooting in Central Park Was Attempted Suicide: NYPD

Police say a shooting in Central Park Tuesday evening was an attempted suicide.

Two joggers called police after they heard a gunshot and ran up to find a man's body on the ground in the area of 110th Street and Central Park West at about 8 p.m., according to authorities.

The man was transported to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was said to be in critical condition, the FDNY said.

Police say relatives of the man had called police before he was found, concerned about his mental welfare.

The man was not identified.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this article stated the man died after being transported to the hospital. He was still in critical condition as of late Tuesday night. We regret the error.
