Two Bronx men were rescued after falling through the ice on the Central Park Pond Tuesday afternoon, and two emergency rescuers who went into the water after them also had to be pulled out, officials said.
The men, 19 and 20, were taking pictures on the snow-covered pond when it gave way, authorities and witnesses said. They were later given tickets for "unlawful ice activity."
Tourists and park-goers looked on in horror.
"We just looked over and we're like 'Oh those two kids are kinda playing in the ice,' and then all of a sudden, they went in," said Patrick Killip, of Las Vegas.
The teens and one NYPD officer who went into the water were all taken to the hospital with injuries that were described as not life-threatening.
Another rescuer also went into the water but was not taken to the hospital.
The pond is located at the park's southern border near 59th Street and Sixth Avenue.
