Selfie Photo Shows Subway Cellphone Thief: Police

A subterranean thief stole a subway rider's cellphone in midtown Manhattan this week, then was captured in a selfie on the stolen device, police said

The suspect approached his victim on an uptown A train at the 50th Street station at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, authorities said.

He grabbed the man's phone and pushed him away as he fled the train, police said.

The suspect's face was then captured by the stolen cellphone's camera, which was later obtained by the NYPD, police said.

It was not immediately clear if the suspect purposefully took the photo, or if a security app on the phone captured the photograph. The image appears to have been taken inside a subway car.

Anyone with information about the suspect should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
